The saunter Florence does for itself. Through the old gate at San Niccolò, wine windows and workshops, up to the rose garden as the light goes gold. It's the low-effort, high-reward evening circuit of the left bank.
San Niccolò was the river-workers' quarter inside the last ring of walls; its tower-gate (1324) survived the 19th-century demolitions because it stood alone, and the neighborhood kept its village-in-the-city character.
The Giardino delle Rose below the piazzale is free, scattered with Folon sculptures, and holds a Japanese garden gifted by Kyoto. Torre San Niccolò opens for summer climbs. It is the only city gate you can still ascend, with a river view the piazzale can't offer.
